ICE CREAM AND SWEET SHOPS

The Chocolate bar – Ambleside – great old fashioned sweet shop, so spoilt for choice, could almost take a whole afternoon!

The Elterwater Store – brilliant ice creams we recommend “Thunder and Lightning” flavour (vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce and honeycomb pieces). Have one while parents are at the Britannia pub (Currently closed, April 2009)

The Old Bank House sweetshop in Ambleside – sells all the Jelly Belly flavours!

The ice cream van in the White Moss Common carpark near Rydal Water. It is there every single day!

The Traditional Sweet Shop at the south end of Windermere village has a whole wall of sweets in jars to choose from.

WALKS

Easy Level walks for little Ones (Even suitable for pushchairs):

Tarn Hows

Elterwater village to the lake (feed the swans too)

Around Loughrigg tarn

Slightly tougher but still easy:

Straight out of the door, past the pub and up the Troutbeck valley to Ing bridge

Ashness Bridge above Derwent Water

Around Rydal Water

Brandelhow along the shore of Derwent Water

RECOMMENDED MOUNTAINS FOR THE FITTER!

Loughrigg (not too high, good first mountain)

Cat Bells (nice walk and not too tough) – combine with a boat trip on Derwent Water

Coniston Old Man (quite tough, great views)

Scafell Pike (not nearly as bad as you think if you go up from Wastwater!)

Langdale pikes (smaller than Coniston Old Man, but still quite tough)

Wetherlam (yikes – it’s big! Great if you’re lucky enough to get snow on top)

After all that you can........................

....on the way home!
